‘One game at a time’ says Arsene

Too true. When your limping around the bottom third of the league you need a tight focus on the next three available points. Plus talking about winning things when you’re fifteenth just invites people to take the piss.

Looking at the next game you’ve got to be optimistic. Steve Bruce says that Sunderland are coming to attack, but without Bendtner and Gyan they are much less of a theat. But Sessegnon showed last time that he needs watching. Sebastian Larsson will also fancy his chances of showing Arsene Wenger that he made a mistake letting him go.

What Steve Bruce probably meant was that they are coming to string five feisty lads across the middle and hope to catch us on the break. So Arsenal are going to have to play against nine Sunderland players behind the ball for a lot of the game.

Hopefully we can move the ball faster than we have been so far and get more passes on target. If we can get the passes through to Van Persie and get Gervinho attacking the box we will be okay.

Most of the talk has been about whether Jenkinson will play, mainly because of the long list of alternatives reeled off by Arsene Wenger. I think he will play and that the manager was just trying to fend off another Arsenal crisis story.

This week of course we’ve not been the media’s favorite target thanks to Wayne Rooney and Wenger was canny enough to give the hacks a Rooney quote to help keep the focus there.

Anyway, the real debate amongst fans seems to be Arshavin v Walcott to play up front with RVP and Gervinho. My vote is for Theo, with Arshavin starting against Marseille, but it could be the other way round!

Arsenal will need to be hot from the start

The August schedule for Arsenal is beginning to sink in, five big games in three weeks. We don’t know yet of course who our Champion’s League Qualifier opponents will be, but whoever the opposition it’s a high stakes tie.

The media build-up to the first game (Newcastle) will all be about the four goal lead thrown away last time. Then Champions League, Liverpool, Champions League, Manchester United. The team is going to gave to work straight out of the box, which adds to the tension of the summer transfer window.

Not too much new on that front at the moment. Most pundits seem to believe that the Gervinho deal is all but done. But nothing firm yet on the defensive front.

Some papers would have us believe that Sebastian Larsson ‘snubbed’ Arsenal for the chance to go to Sunderland. Yeah right! Hope Steve Bruce didn’t get fooled into paying too much.

Contrast the Larsson tactics with Clichy, who if he is on his way is doing it without a string of media puff pieces along the way. Another strangely quiet issue is the departure of Eboue. I mean we’ve all heard that Denilson can’t be swapped anyone with two feet, but most were agreed that Eboue was on his way too.

I he’s had moments to make us laugh and cry but he’s still a capable player that would do a lot of Premier League clubs some good. Perhaps he isn’t off after all!!!
