Various media sources are running a fairly definitive looking quote from Lukas Podolski’s agent saying that there won’t be any transfer this window.  Podolski is happy where he is for now.  Shame, as I think he looked like a very good option.  There has been some stuff on Twitter about this deal being on, but I think the ‘no’ stories look better sources.  The reported comments though do imply that at least there was some enquiry from Arsenal – implying that we are in the market for a striker if the right option is there.

But just as pressing is some cover at fullback.  Two names have already been discussed by media and fans: Manchester City’s out of favour, third choice Wayne Bridge and AC Milan’s Taye Taiwo.

Now two more names are doing the rounds.  The first is Lyon’s Aly Cissokho.  In true rumour mill speak he has apparently ‘put Arsenal on alert’.

The reported quote is: ‘This week, I will speak with the Lyon staff.  I reckon I prefer England, but for now, there is nothing done.”  It’s thin stuff I know, but after last night you can’t claim we aren’t interested in these stories!

The other new name is in The Mirror.  Apparently, Arsene Wenger is taking a look at Sunderland’s Kieran Richardson.  Richardson is of course mainly a winger, but he has also played at leftback.  No quotes at all to back this one up.  Could just be a bit of Monday paper filling copy.  I know it’s Tuesday today but you know what I mean.
