Over the next six days there are two complete sets of league games, the first set kicking off with Liverpool v Newcastle tomorrow. Thanks to our draw and Newcastle’s win, they have hauled themselves back into the six-point spread around Arsenal. Here’s the current situation:
| Pos | Club | Played | GD | Points |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4 | Chelsea | 18 | 15 | 34 |
| 5 | Arsenal | 18 | 8 | 33 |
| 6 | Liverpool | 18 | 7 | 31 |
| 7 | Newcastle | 18 | 3 | 30 |
Liverpool v Newcastle (Fri 19.45)
Obviously we want a draw here and that’s a possibility as drawing at home is something Liverpool do best! Newcastle’s away form has not been so good recently, since they got disrupted by injuries. They got a win at Bolton on Boxing Day but dropped points on the three previous trips. I think Liverpool could get this, so we have to make sure we don’t drop points this time.

Arsenal v QPR (Sat 15.00)
Hopefully QPR won’t be as resilient as Wolves because we really need to take three points here if we are going to make some progress. QPR haven’t won at all in December’s marathon of games, Three draws and to defeats. If it wasn’t for the frustrating memory of Tuesday’s game I’d be saying dead cert. Hope so.

Chelsea v Aston Villa (Sat 15.00)
Aston Villa have only lost twice on the road when they failed to bore Spurs and Manchester city into submission. They are very, very dull but they don’t conceded a lot of goals. Chelsea have drawn their last three games.

There has to be a chance of another draw here. If there is, let’s hope we’re ready to take advantage this time!
